When complete, the Coronet Loop trail will form a 56k intermediate grade MTB (and walking) trail starting at the top of Bush Creek, traversing the front face of Coronet Peak to the base of the Rude Rock trail, down Long Gully and up over Greengates Saddle before returning to the Macetown Road via Deep Creek and Coronet Creek.
The Trust was pleased to announce the opening of the first stage of the Coronet Loop trail at the end of 2018 (the Coronet Face Water Race Trail), and we have uncovered some interesting local mining history along the way. Phase 1 of this route traverses from the Coronet Road across to Bush Creek Saddle, with options to access from the Dan O’Connell track and a descent route down to Alan Reid Road also added. This will be further enhanced with some Queenstown Trails Trust scheduled improvements to the Bush Creek Track in October 2019.
The Queenstown Trails Trust has been working on the Coronet Loop Trail project since 2015 and we've been working tirelessly with multiple stakeholders to bring this project into fruition. We are currently awaiting LINZ/DoC approvals for phase 2 which will take you from Deep Creek and Coronet Creek out to Arrowtown. Once we have phase 2 approved we can start work on forming the second stage and completing this epic 56k backcountry trail.
