Guest Blog: My First Marathon

10/10/2019

Meet Gill Allan. Gill won a QTT competition to run the Air NZ Queenstown International Marathon, race day Sat 16th November. This is Gill's first marathon and is keeping us up to date on her training efforts... GO GILL!

I’m relatively new to running. The longest run I’ve ever run was about 10km - that was until I won a competition run by Queenstown Trails Trust - entry to the Queenstown Marathon!

What was I thinking? I’m no spring chick and all of a sudden, I’m doing a half marathon? Fortunately, I’m training on the beautiful Kelvin Peninsula trail, and I believe it’s the most beautiful place in the world to run. There are runners, walkers, dogs, cyclists, babies in prams, etc on the trails when I’m out - I only overtake the walkers! I’m running 12km now and increasing gradually towards 16 November run day. I can’t think of a better place I’d rather be running.

Great job Queenstown Trails Trust! The trails are such a great asset to our area.

The Queenstown Trails Trust is the Official Charity behind the Air NZ Queenstown International Marathon. When you enter this event a percentage of your entry fee goes to the Queenstown Trails Trust. You also have the ability to further support the Queenstown Trails Trust by donating when prompted through the event online registration system.

Approximately $70,000 per year is raised from these events, this revenue goes directly back into trail network, enabling us to maintain and expand our trails into the future. For this we would like to thank the event organisers, Ironman and all of the competitors for their support of the trail network.

There is still time if you'd like to join the race - enter HERE.
