Gibbston or ‘Valley of the Vines’ is synonymous with world class wines, the famous Kawarau Bungy and since 2014, one of the most dramatic trails in New Zealand.
Riding through Gibbston, you could be forgiven for thinking you’re in parts of France. The vineyards, family owned restaurants and cafés, old churches and intense summer heat are a feast for the all the senses.
On a hot day, the Gibbston Community Reserve 200m up Coal Pit Road offers welcome shade and clean toilets – the ideal spot for a picnic.
